Dystopian Novel Cover Ideas
Spring 2020
As part of an Editorial Graphic Design course I took at Nuova Academia di Belle Arti in Milan, Italy, in the Spring of 2020, I was assigned a week to design a series of 5.5 x 8.5" book covers that cohesively encapsulate a singular theme. I wanted to use this series to delve into my complex fascination with dystopian novels and experiment with developing a cohesive design language across multiple pieces through an image and text. This project became the inspiration for my senior thesis project. (Check out the "Dystopian Book Covers" project on my portfolio for more.) The images on each of the book covers were gathered from Unsplash and the State Library of New South Wales: Christopher Burns (image in Fahrenheit 451 cover); Pim Myten (image in New Brave World cover); Valentin Lacoste (image in 1984 cover); James Francis Hurley (image in War of the Worlds cover).
